August 1813. San Sebastian, Basque Country, Spain.

Napoleon's Army waves the white flag of surrender over San Sebastian, a city under their strategic possession. But in their victory, British and Portuguese armies turn dangerously drunken and vengeful. They raid the wine cellars, sack the city, and mercilessly assault its innocent women and children.

Captain Peter Ashmore, disillusioned and enraged by the violence, fights his own countrymen to protect the innocent. But he is too late to save Ana Maria Bailon, the daughter of a Spanish Major, from being assaulted. Peter vows to protect her, but with San Sebastian in ashes and the British army in disarray, he must leave for England. Bound by honor and intent on atoning for the horrors Ana endured, Peter proposes a marriage of convenience to grant her safety.

It is impossible for Ana to find any light remaining in herself, having been brutally attacked by those she called allies. With nowhere else to turn, she trusts Captain Ashmore and accepts his proposal. She must leave Spain to preserve her reputation and future, even if doing so means the loss of her home, culture, and the remnants of her family.

Ana and Peter try to trust that God will heal the wounds they cannot heal in each other. Will the tentative connection between them be strong enough to endure?

This book is entirely unrelated to the above series. I just love Christmas, so I wanted to write a Christmas romance and thought it would be fun to try Victorian. I guess we'll see if it ends up being a novella or full length haha. TBD.
